Tesla Model 3: Mid-range electric car for $35,000

Tesla is extending its portfolio, presenting the new Model 3 on 31.3.2016. This mid-range offering will be built on a completely new platform and hit dealerships in 2017, priced at 35,000 US dollars.

Price rebates for the Tesla Model 3

Even though the Tesla Model 3 is priced considerably higher than the average new car price in the US of 31,000 dollars, the sale price (in the USA at least) will be effectively reduced by 7,500 dollars by way of a tax credit. Depending on state, buyers can also expect further incentives ranging between 2,000 and 6,000 dollars in value. As if that wasn't enough, buyers that reserve their Tesla Model 3 online from the 1. April 2016 will receive a further discount of 1,000 dollars from Tesla.

The Model 3 will be around 20 percent smaller than the Tesla Model S and feature batteries from in-house battery manufacturer Gigafactory. Gigafactory will begin producing more economical battery systems in 2017.

This battery will give the Tesla Model 3 a range of 200 miles (320 kilometres) and in doing so place the Model 3 around the level of the Model S. "We want people to fall in love with their cars and look forward to driving them", states Musk. Included in the purchase price is the free usage of the Tesla-owned Supercharger network of charging stations.

Tesla intends to bring a six-figure sum of Model 3 cars to market. In addition to the Model S and the newly released SUV Model X, Tesla is planning on releasing one more model. Musk announced on Twitter that we can expect a Model Y in the future too. Our photo gallery displays the newest model on sale - the Tesla Model X.
