Car brands’ most powerful models: These are the best of each brand

Often the pinnacle of their respective portfolios, these cars feature the most powerful power trains each of the brands have to offer. ams-mag.com has compiled the most powerful ambassadors of each brand here in Germany.

In your eyes, only the best is good enough? Only cars that push the envelope will do? You’ll be in your element here! We show you the cars that are built to add to brand image, not just the turnover. We’re not looking for fuel efficiency, practicality or affordability. Only the horses under the bonnet count.

Top Dogs often Diesel

You’re a Toyota fan. You head down to the dealership to get yourself the most powerful model in the portfolio, expecting to be greeted by a spicy sports car. No such luck. The dealer presents you with a 4.5 litre V8 D-4D Land Cruiser. An SUV. What’s more, a diesel SUV. At 272 BHP, the Land Cruiser takes top spot in the German Toyota range.

Let’s look for a moment at the weakest of the strongest. Here we find the 1.6 litre petrol engine fitted to the Granta and Kalina, churning out 87 BHP. At the other end of the spectrum, we have the Ferrari F12 tdf with 780 BHP and 705 Nm. Hybrid models top both the Mitsubishi and Volvo portfolios, with the Outlander and the XC90.

Francophile petrolheads should look to compacts for the top performers. Especially of note are the 308 GTI and the Mégane R.S.

Top BMW is the M6 with Competition Package

Of course, it’s an M model that takes the crown for BMW. It’s the M6, with the extra Competitions Package, which provides 600 BHP. Audi on the other hand offers a whopping 610 BHP. That’s what the 5.2 litre V10 in the R8 Plus provides. Premium competitor Mercedes tops even that! The G 65, SL 65 and S 65 all churn out an unbeatable 630 BHP. VW’s ambassador is the V8 Phaeton, with 335 BHP.

The top performers for Dacia, Fiat, Lancia, Kia, and all other brands can be found in our gallery.
